  • Follow the signage installed throughout the Parklands
  • Slow down in high pedestrian traffic areas
  • Be aware of pedestrians and other park users - you never know when a child may run out to chase a ball, just like when riding on the open road
  • Ring your bell to alert pedestrians that you are approaching
  • Give way to pedestrians

Safety tips for pedestrians

With more and more people using walking and cycling paths throughout Queensland, it is important to keep in mind that all users have legitimate rights on certain types of paths - but with those rights come personal responsibilities.

In Queensland, cyclists are allowed to ride on footpaths unless prohibitied by signs, but they must give way to pedestrians.

  • Be predictable - walk in a straight line and check the path is clear in front and behind before you change direction
  • If you are walking your dog, be mindful to keep your pet on a short leash and by your side
  • Be aware it is important that pedestrians are able to hear what is going on in their surroundings - this includes cyclists approaching
  • Keep left whilst walking along paths to assist others overtaking

Note:  These tips are to assist all visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience whilst enjoying the Parklands
